... works from the Collection of Erste Bank-Group
The exhibition will show an overview of art from Central, East, and Southeastern Europe since the 1960s.
17 March 2006 - 21 May 2006
In Kontakt, MUMOK presents the collection of Erste Bank Group. Performance art, media reflexivity, and responses to modernist art practices make up the central focus of this presentation, which marks the beginning of the collection. With this project, art from the countries of Central Europe is for the first time being presented in two locations in a border-crossing show: in Vienna and Bratislava.
The works shown in the exhibition reflect the political and historical transformations that have taken place in Europe since the 1960s, as well as the importance of art before the backdrop of current cultural, social, and economic developments. Erste Bank Group thus presents an up until now neglected chapter in the international history of art and contributes to its reevaluation in the current art discourse. While the earlier works in the exhibition from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s will be shown in MUMOK, the more recent positions will be exhibited in Tranzit Workshops in Bratislava. The recently founded exhibition space for young art makes clear the crucial intention of the Erste Bank Group to provide infrastructural support and create artistic platforms of production in the countries they do business.
