17th International Music Festival Český Krumlov 2007

23 July 2008 - 23 August 2008

Beautiful music in an inspiring historical setting
There is something for everyone, from music dating from the Gothic period to music from the 21st century, from classical repertoire to jazz and folk, to special nights featuring Irish and French music accompanied with culinary delights. Concerts, recitals and shows will take place in twelve different and inspiring venues in Český Krumlov and its surroundings.

Open air concerts are also very popular. The Brewery Gardens will host a Greek Night (26 July), during which visitors will hear not only the national music, but will also taste Greek specialities and beverages. American trumpeter Bobby Shew has promised to participate in the jazz concert (2 August); he has played with stars such as Benny Goodman and Maynard Ferguson. At the festival, he will be accompanied by the Czech Big Company. A Night on Broadway (9 August) performed by Broadway musical stars Debbie Gravitte, Christiane Noll and Doug LaBrecque is also sure to be very entertaining. Under the baton of world-class conductor Randall Craig Fleischer and accompanied by the Olomouc Moravian Philharmonic, they will sing melodies from famous musicals such as My Fair Lady, Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Candide, Chicago etc.

On 1 August, the Chateau Riding Hall will host a concert of the Teplice North Bohemian Philharmonic with Canadian conductor Charles Olivieri-Munroe and clarinettist Sharon Kam, who had her debut at the age of sixteen with the Israeli Philharmonic and conductor Zubin Mehta. Since then she has performed with many leading European, American and Japanese orchestras.

The star of the final concert (23 August) will be flutist Sir James Galway, whose brilliant career has taken him all the way to Buckingham Palace, where he performed for Her Majesty the Queen, members of the royal family and the representatives of the seven countries at the London Summit. He was knighted for his artistic talent, and his list of other successes is endless. Performing with him, as a guest of the Czech Radio Symphonic Orchestra, will be Mr Galway’s wife, Lady Jeanne Galway, who is likewise a successful flutist. The orchestra will be conducted by Vladimír Válek.
