Tricky Women 2008
International Animation Festival
Tricky Women, the only festival of animated film in Europe that is dedicated exclusively to animation by women presents 144 works from 27 countries.
Animation has influenced our everyday visual perception more than any other form of art in the past few years. Its boundless and diverse elements are used more and more often in commercials as well as feature films.
Tricky Women 2008 once again presents new animated short films made by women from all over the world.
56 pre-selected films are shown in five competition programmes, and the winners will be chosen from these entries by a jury consisting of Maureen Furniss, Marjut Rimminen and Susi Jirkuff.
The films on show deal with issues such as climate change, globalisation and migration as well as different kinds of relationships and sex.
Focusing attention on young filmmakers is one of the main concerns of Tricky Women. The Lucerne College of Art and Design, the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem and the Art Institute of California are presented in a special section devoted to film schools.
This year’s tribute is dedicated to Marjut Rimminen, one of the leading figures in the world of animation.
The Austrian Panorama reflects the rich potential of animated filmmaking in this country. An additional section devoted to Russian Animation and Literature and the traditional Specials round off the programme.
Professionals and audience will find an opportunity for exchange and networking at the international Connecting Animation forum that is held for the second time on 28 March.
